Position Summary

Sunterra has a full-time opportunity available for a Senior Accountant to join our corporate accounting team. The successful applicant will be responsible for the senior accounting functions for various Sunterra Group companies and will work at our office space located just outside the village of Acme, Alberta. The successful candidate will need to commute or relocate to the Acme area.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following activities:

• Preparing financial reporting for various Sunterra group companies using in-house accounting software and other tools
• Preparing, coordinating, and monitoring of company budgets and forecasts
• Assisting in tax planning and tax accounting, including USA and Canada corporate tax preparation activities, advising and strategizing as required
• Compiling year-end provincial and federal tax notices
• Evaluating, monitoring, and managing bank financing
• Conducting internal audit work and preparing for and overseeing the annual external audit, maintaining relationships with external auditors throughout entire audit cycle
• Preparing company consolidated statements on a monthly, annual, and ad-hoc basis
• Investigating and evaluating all available grant opportunities, completing grant applications and reports including selection of eligible expenses and activities, answering detailed questions, and composing written summaries to satisfy reporting requirements
• Compiling and submitting information for Statistics Canada surveys or requests
• Assisting, overseeing, and supporting other accounting functions, team members, and various operations or project work as it become pertinent

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience; CPA designation is an asset
• Proficient in all aspects of corporate accounting and awareness of relevant Corporate and Statutory rules and regulations
• Ability to learn and effectively utilize in-house accounting software to create reports, input and extract data, and perform other accounting functions
• Strong written and verbal skills to communicate with all levels of the organization
• Ability to meet internal and external reporting deadlines
• Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Suite with intermediate or advanced Excel
• Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative and dynamic team environment
• Proven diligence to protect and maintain critical confidential information
• Aspire to continuous learning of legislation and best business practices
• Must have solid organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to work well under pressure in fast paced team environment
• Capacity to be flexible and open to change

Education

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, or Business Management or a related field
